📝 Sentence Completion is a type of question in listening, where you complete the sentence in the given question.
Easy, right? 😊
Here, you listen to the audio. The question can have a missing word or number, and you have to fulfill it by inserting the right information.
❓ HOW TO DO IT??
Below are some steps to follow in this question type:
📌 READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY
This is, let’s say, the most important advice I would give to you.
You are supposed to read the instructions below the question carefully.
For instance, if the direction is to write 1 word only, and you write 2 words, your answer would be marked as ❌ wrong, and you will lose a score even if the answer is right.
✅ Hence, read the instructions and stick to them. Okay?
🔁 WATCH FOR SYNONYMS OR PARAPHRASING
Some of the words in the audio and in the questions might differ.
The words would be different, but they would convey the same meaning.
Hence, you should be aware of the synonyms or paraphrasing words if they are asked in the question.
🧠 CONSIDER GRAMMATICAL CORRECTNESS
Grammar plays a key role in IELTS questions. In this question type also, you should be clear about the grammatical accuracy and don’t write the exact word that has been said in the audio.
For instance, if the audio says:
👉 “She is really distressed because of her brother’s behavior.”
The sentence should be:
✍️ “It was distressing for her to see her brother’s behavior.”
❗ If you make a grammatical error, it would be marked as incorrect even if the information inserted is correct.
