Let’s dive into the question type which is diagram completion. Just like the flowchart completion question, this type also appears in PART 2 and 4.
In this, you will be provided a diagram about a certain place, structure, or object with missing labels on it. You have to listen to the audio carefully so that you can label the diagram later. The answers should consist of 1 to 3 words or a number (⚠️ watch out for word limit instructions).
Also, in this type, you have to be careful while listening to spatial words such as right next to, in the center of, on the left, etc. This helps you in labelling the diagram correctly.
HOW TO DO IT??
Some steps can be adopted in this regard:
📌 READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY
This is an indispensable recommendation that I would give to you. You have to read the instructions below the question cautiously as it would be dealing with the word limit.
For instance, if the direction is to write 1 word only, and you write 2 words instead of 1, your answer can be considered erroneous, and there is a major chance that you lose a score even if the answer is right.
🧾 READ THE TITLE AND THE LABELS
Since this is a diagram question, there might be a title and some pictorial representation of a place or object with missing details. If you read them carefully, you would have the idea of what the questions would be about.
This way, you can understand the diagram and it will help you label it in a better way.
🔍 WATCH FOR SYNONYMS OR PARAPHRASING
Here is another tip for you. Some of the words in the audio might be different from those in the diagram. The words would be changed; however, they would give the same idea.
For instance, if the text in the audio conveys a message, its diagram form might use different words to test your listening. Therefore, you should be careful of the paraphrasing.
🎧 UNDERSTAND THE INTRODUCTION
Before the start of the proper audio, you would be hearing an introduction, which would introduce you to your topic.
You might hear the person saying, “You will listen to a tour guide of Medford Park,” or anything that can have a diagram for it.
This will also assist you in comprehending the context.
⚠️ LOOK OUT FOR THE DISTRACTING CONTENT
It is important for you guys to listen steadily as well as thoroughly, so that you can detect the confusing content in the audio.
For instance, if the audio about a home tour says, “The kitchen is on the left side. Oh! My mistake. It is on the right side of the hall where Mrs. Sparks bakes her cakes.”
So, you would know the answer and you can label the diagram correctly.
