Flowchart completion type questions usually appear in PART 2 OR 4 of the IELTS Listening, just like diagram completion.
We all know what a flowchart looks like, right? It is a sort of visual representation that helps people in understanding the concepts.
After listening to the audio, about any process or steps of something, you will be provided a flowchart with blanks. Your job would be to fill those blanks on the basis of what you listened to in the audio.
Sounds easy, huh?
🔔 By the way, spelling counts as well, so make sure you write correct spellings in order to score better. Otherwise, even if your answer is right, it can be marked wrong because of incorrect spelling.
🛠️ HOW TO DO IT??
✅ READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY
This is the most vital suggestion to give to you guys. You are encouraged to read the instructions below the question “carefully” as they deal with the word limit.
📌 For instance, if the direction is to write 2 words only, and you write 3 words instead, your answer will be measured as incorrect, and there is a high chance that you miss a score even if the answer is right.
🧩 READ THE TITLE AND THE LABELS
Since this is a flowchart question, there might be a title and some chart with missing details.
📌 If you read them carefully, you would have the idea of what the questions would be about.
This way, you can understand the flowchart and it will help you label the chart better.
🔄 WATCH FOR SYNONYMS OR PARAPHRASING
Many of the words in the audio and in the questions might be different. The words would vary; yet, their idea would be the same.
📌 For instance, if the text in the audio conveys a message, its flowchart form might use different words to convey the similar message. Therefore, you should be careful of the paraphrasing.
📣 UNDERSTAND THE INTRODUCTION
Before the beginning of the actual audio, you would be listening to an introduction, which would make you aware of what the audio is about.
📌 You might listen to the person saying, “You will listen to an academic lecture on ancient civilizations.”
This will also help you to comprehend the context.
🚫 LOOK OUT FOR THE DISTRACTING CONTENT
It is an important recommendation for you guys to listen to the audio closely, so that you can notice the distracting content in the audio.
📌 To exemplify, the audio might say, “This water canal was completed in the year 1989, but it was opened and became fully functional in 1992.”
So you should remember the details and don’t fall for the distractors.
